We are the industry behind the industry. Made up of countless individuals and organisations, we power the tech in your hands, beneath the seas, and among the stars.

We are the free and open source community.

This is an open letter to the European Commission asking to be represented in the technological €2 trillion investment that is being proposed. We believe that technological investment using public funds should not just go to private corporations, but also to the people/organisations that have an outsized impact on the technology sector developing public code.

Thus far, the EU has been partially contributing to open source via these programs:

• NLnet (currently facing funding cuts [1] [2])
• Sovereign Tech Funds (needs to be institutionalized and strengthened)

While appreciative of the funding so far, we request additional funding to help Europe achieve digital sovereignty.
